Today was P7’s final day of their salmon project which started in February. Back then the children were given 100 salmon eggs to tend to in the classroom. These were then released into the Culmore River in March by the children. Today we had a great visit to DEARA’s salmon hatchery at Bushmills. Here the children were shown the stages in the life of an Atlantic salmon and enjoyed a nature walk along the River Bush. This is a fantastic environmental project teaching our children about the River Bann, local to us all. We are indebted to Mr Mark Patterson who has facilitated this project for us and has provided a fantastic learning opportunity for our children these past 16 years. We wish him a very happy retirement from this work.
