Children in Need Stars

24th Nov 2023

We are so proud of two of our pupils who appeared in a special programme which showcased how Children in Need supports children and charities in Northern Ireland.

The girls were delighted to tell everyone in assembly that they were asked to demonstrate their Karate Skills and participate in a Music Programme for the recording. The girls thoroughly enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience.

To see our talented ladies, tune into BBC iplayer, Northern Ireland.

The Charity, 'Zachary Geddis, Break the Silence Trust' is an amazing charity which has grown into the first stop for immediate mental health services across the Causeway Coast and Glens. With an average of 150 weekly clients, what used to be an online one-woman team has now grown into a relied on, trusted community service.

As a Take 5 School we believe children's wellbeing is a priority and we believe it is important that our families are aware of this service.

ZGBTST’s Youth Alternative Therapy was launched in February 2022. Their Youth Alternative Therapy seen ZGBTST accept referrals for children aged 8 and above with mental health needs along with ASD & ADHD diagnosis who have often been left out of traditional methods of intervention.

The success of their youth alternative therapy has been documented through their support in funding from the comic relief fund which now will see the service operate until 2024 and beyond. They offer children with support through various methods such as:

  • Groups
  • Talking Therapy
  • Mentoring
  • Music Education

Each child is allocated a space depending on circumstances and our groups operate in terms, so every child has the opportunity to attend.

They currently accept and receive referrals from family members, schools, youth groups, GP services, mental health practitioners, family intervention teams, social workers, other outside agencies, and CAMHS.

Thank you girls for highlighting the wonderful work this charity does!
